One match that almost all the fans and officials of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC are eagerly waiting to happen in between the UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva and the UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones. However, either of the two contenders who could make this dream match doesn’t seem to want the match as badly as the fans and the officials. After his second round total knockout defeat of Chael Sonnen at UFC 148 for the UFC Middleweight Championship, Silva wagged his finger in the negative when asked about any potential match against his fellow Brazilian.
The 24 year old Jones, in spite of his short stint in the UFC, has become the most dominant forces in the company, just like Silva has been in the Middleweight division for almost 6 years now and although he is scheduled to defend his title against former Strike Force and PRIDE champion Dan Henderson, hardly anyone has doubts that Jon Jones will come out on top.
When asked about the possibility of such a match, Jones stated that one of the main problems he has is going down a weight category to fight his fellow Brazilian and he made it clear that he has no intentions of that. He also added that he has no interest of fighting someone like Anderson Silva, someone he grew up idolizing and has too much respect for.
Silva, who is in the last year of his contract with the UFC, has fought in the 205lbs category before but he wants to stay within the 1485lbs weight class during this final year of his career. And that has poured on whatever hopes the fans and officials had of seeing Jon Jones and Anderson Silva going head to head against each other to determine the greatest Mixed Martial Artist.
